Part Time Library Clerk:

The Alta Community Library is seeking a part-time Library clerk to work with the Library Director. Duties involved are staffing the circulation desk, reference service and providing other services for public patrons. Assist with the set up and efficient running of various patron programs. Up to 20 hours per week supervised by the Library Director. High School diploma/GED required. Start Date: 08/24/23  Wages & Benefits:  $10 - $13 per hour / IPERS. Part Time Library Assistant:

The Alta Community Library is seeking a part-time Library Assistant to work with the Library Director. Duties involved are staffing the circulation desk, reference service and providing other services for public patrons. This position also plans and implements programming for children, teens and adults in coordination with the Director. Up to 20 hours per week. Bachelors Degree and State of Iowa Library Staffing Certificate required (to be completed within 2 years from hiring). Start Date: 8/24/23  Wages & Benefits:  $13 - $18 per hour / IPERS. Part Time Library Director

Alta Community Library is a joint public and school library located in Alta, IA. The public director is responsible for managing the public library, including overseeing staff, budget, operations, administration, and programming, as well as working with the library board to set policies and establish procedures. The public director works closely with the school librarian and the Alta-Aurelia school district administrators to ensure that the 28-E agreement between the Alta Community Library and the A-A school district is carried out. The position is 24-32 hours per week, with occasional evening hours .

The ideal candidate has experience working in libraries and is knowledgeable about public library standards. They are proficient with technology including email, Microsoft Office, Canva, and social media. The ideal candidate will be willing to engage with the community and has strong writing and interpersonal skills.

Preferred, but not required: Knowledge of library automation software–Atriuum by Booksystems or Apollo by Biblionix, Concrete5 website software as provided by State Library of Iowa, familiarity with IALearns, and familiarity with digital resources such as BRIDGES.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or higher, and Public Library Director Endorsement through the State Library of Iowa, or must be willing to obtain Public Library Director Endorsement within two years of hire date. Valid Iowa’s driver’s license or ability to obtain one.

Physical requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary and Benefits: $18-20 per hour depending on experience, IPERS
