Programs and services especially for adults.
The library is open to adults during some school hours. From 9:00 to 12:00, adults may feel free to peruse the shelves on the adult side or even in the easy and junior collections, if they have need of such books. Children may not check out DVDs during school hours, so adults can calmly take a look at our vast collection of new releases or old classics.
Adults over 18 may also use the adult unfiltered computers (two of which are available). They can check their email, surf the Internet, write research papers or whatever they need to do while taking orbit into cyberspace.
Bestselling books abound at the Alta Community Library. If your favorite author is checked out at the present time, arrangements for reserving the title are no problem. You may also ask the librarian to order a new book or check it out through interlibrary loan. This is when a book is ordered from another library in the State of Iowa.
From 3:30 to 7:00, the library returns to the "public library." No classes are held after 3:15 p.m., and the library is usually rather quiet. Children are welcome during these hours, too, but more adults take advantage of the library during these hours. They have every opportunity to look up books on the automated card catalog. Families with preschool-age children enjoy visiting the library during this time.
There is a place for everyone at the Alta Community Library.
